Why We Help HR Consultants and HR Business Owners with Automation
One of the most common complaints by business owners (certainly ones that have been in business a while) is that they are always busy. And usually too busy.
They complain of having to work in the evenings, or at the weekends.
They feel guilty if they take time off work.
They feel like their to-do list is massive.
They feel guilty for not spending enough time with the kids.
They feel guilty for not spending enough time with their partner.
They feel jealous that their friends seem to be going on holidays constantly.
They often say that they are exhausted, and too tired to do anything.
They sometimes feel that their team is getting paid more than they are, particularly if they have Senior HR consultants or Employment Solicitors. And you wonder — “why do I do this?”
A solution.
Not a silver bullet.
But a realistic & worthwhile solution.
As you’d expect, there are ways to make this easier, using #automation.
Unlike many ‘AI or Automation Consultants’, just using a bit of AI or new software won’t suddenly solve your problems.
What we do is look for where your problems are. Where there’s friction to getting things working.
And we replace that bit of the process using software.
Then we look for the next one, and solve that with software too.
The software might be something off the shelf, or it might be custom. We typically favour custom software as it’s usually the cheapest solution in the medium to long term. It also fits better.
Think of a tailor-made dress or suit, v.s. clothing that’s off the peg.
There are lots of examples of what those automations look like, and I encourage you to explore our examples to see what those solutions look like.
We replace parts of your processes with code, software or AI.
You’ll have some brilliantly documented standard operating proceedures (SOPs) in your team.
You’ll also have some that aren’t documented at all.
You’ll also have some that have changed over the last 3 years as you’ve learned some lessons.
To help you, we’ll replace chunks of those processes with something that automates it.
In some occasions we replace a whole process for you.
In some cases we part-automate a process for you.
And in some cases, we completely automate a process for you.
The result?
Each time we automate parts of a process, you and your team gain some time.
Time to spend with your HR clients, doing what you do best.
We’re not for everyone…
If you can and want to create your own automations, then please do!
We understand and realise that some business owners are very comfortable getting involved with technology and will happily invest their time using them.
Why do we specialise in HR?
Ooo, I love this question. We wanted to pick one industry that we could absolutely and completely look after. Become experts with how they think, experts in their problems, and experts at solving their problems
Having worked with many different industries, we found that HR consultants, HR admin teams and HR business partners know what they want, but struggle with the techie bits.
(We actually understand concepts such as TUPEs, protected characteristics, data protection, ACAS, EAP, constructive dismissals, EDI and more – not enough to pass a CIPD qualification, but enough to understand you.)
HR people are great with humans, much less so with the techie side of things.
Since HR people know what they want, this makes our working relationship significantly easier. We’ve discovered that HR teams are specific on what they need, which makes it much easier for us to deliver.
Just think, when you go into a restaurant, how much easier is to get your food when you know what you want?!?
About Dan Harrison
I’m the Director and Lead Developer of Automation4HR.
I’ve been writing code in one form or another since I was 11 (I’m much older than 11 now!). It was around the time that I finished my MEng Computer Science degree at the University of Southampton that I discovered WordPress.
I spent about 17 years as a web developer, specialising in crafting WordPress themes and plugins from scratch. I started Automation4HR in December 2024, having spent about 4 years crafting automations for a range of businesses.
My love of automation comes from a phrase I learnt from one of my lecturers when learning about programming:
There’s a fun satisfaction to automating something with code… a feeling you might have when completing a 1000 piece puzzle or completing a hard sudoku puzzle. I use this love of code and problem solving to help clients, and I love being the guy that can help.
I work hard to balance the business and my personal time. I make sure I have time for my friends and family, particularly my son and partner. I’m well-known for my love of chocolate, but my new passion is working with wood, doing plenty of DIY to renovate my home.
